FAQ
What is a zine?
A zine is a collection of unofficial, fanmade works. It is comprised mostly of artwork and short stories. What is the theme of this zine?
This is an anniversary zine all about celebrating 25 years of our favorite spunky purple dragon, Spyro! It will feature everything Spyro, from the original PS1 trilogy all the way to Reignited. The first Spyro game was released September 9th, 1998 in North America for the PlayStation. Is there an age requirement for mods and contributors?
We require that mods and contributors are 18+ at the time of applying. Can I apply for more than one role?
Yes! You may apply for more than one role, but may only be accepted for one. If accepted, you will be told in your results email what roles you will be offered.Which versions of Spyro can I depict in the zine?
All Spyro games (including spin-offs) are welcome! Each one has played an important part in his history as a character, so ideally, we'd like to see a little bit of everything. Can we feature other Spyro characters in our piece?
Yes! We would like Spyro himself to be the main focus of our zine, but we are not opposed to having other characters featured in your piece, as long as Spyro himself is still included. Is shipping allowed?
Canon pairings are fair game as long as it's accurate to the game content we're celebrating. Examples of this include: Spyro/Cynder and Spyro/Elora.Will alternate universe settings be allowed?
No AU's, as we're celebrating Spyro's 25th year, we would prefer to keep it relevant to canon content only. Are OC's allowed?
No OC's, as we're celebrating Spyro's 25th year, we would prefer to keep it relevant to canon content only.Do I need to have a Spyro the Dragon sample in my application?
No, you are not required to have a Spyro sample in your application, though we would love to see them if you have any! However, any art samples featuring creatures (particularly reptiles or dragons) would be highly preferred. Will the zine be digital or physical?
The zine will be digital and physical. Is this zine for profit or charity?
This will be a charity zine with proceeds going towards Video Game History Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and teaching the history of video games. Will there be a Discord for this project?
Yes, there will! A successful applicant will need to join the Discord server to keep in contact with mods and for any further information as the zine progresses. What is a Pinch Hitter?
A pinch hitter is someone who is brought in to do art/writing in the event one of the original contributors cannot finish their piece for any reason. Your deadline will be tighter than a normal contributor, so please only sign up for this if you feel you can produce your work with a quick turnaround. How will contributors be compensated?
Contributors are guaranteed a digital bundle of the zine and merch. Depending on how well the zine does during pre-orders, we would also like to offer a physical bundle. When can I post my finished piece?
A date will be given by the mod team, and until then, your piece must not be public until then.Is there anything that will prevent people from being accepted into the zine?
We will not be accepting anyone who takes part in homophobic, transphobic, or racist behavior, or any other types of bullying or harassment. This type of behavior is also grounds for removal from the zine. How can we keep track of the zine and its updates?

Head - Socials - WritingI've been a Spyro fan since the PS1 days! I remember spending countless hours playing Year of the Dragon (my favorite from the original trilogy) after school. I also adored the Legend of Spyro series and replayed the Eternal Night multiple times, maxing out every elemental upgrade. Since Spyro is very dear to my heart, I wanted to organize a little something special as a thank you for an amazing 25 years!

OrganizationI've been playing Spyro as soon as I could hold a controller, and have grown up playing the games as they came out! I have a deep, deep love for the original trilogy, and I remember spending hours on my PS2 in TLOS just playing with the flight controls. You could put any Spyro game in front of me and I'd be happy. It's an absolute blast to be on board a Spyro zine and celebrate this wonderful series <3

Finance - ProductionI'm definitely a newer fan compared to everyone else here, haha. My friend introduced me to the series just a few months ago, and even though I struggled heavily with just using a controller, I really liked the story and watching them play and talk about the series. I'm yet to uncover everything about Spyro but I'm very glad I'm able to do that surrounded by so many faithful fans!

GraphicsI've never played spyro, I think I would've liked it as a child—but the games I like to play has changed over the years so I don't think I'll ever play it. I joined because dragons are cool, purple is my favorite color, and I run atozines so I like to explore other zine fandoms. (':

ArtHello! ^^💞
I always wanted to play spyro when I was little but I wasn't able to :') so when the trilogy came out on PC I was so happy! I haven't finished the games yet but I think it's a very cute game developed with a lot of care and love :) It's my first time as a mod, gonna do my best ^^
So excited to be in this project!

InternI used to play the OG Spyro trilogy on a busted PS1 hooked up to a tiny boxy TV on the floor of my brother's room. I've always loved dragons and I remember being so amazed and impressed by the "incredible" 3D graphics. In my teenage years, I found the Spyro speedrunning community and spent many hours watching videos and learning more about the beloved games of my childhood. I am excited to share my love of Spyro with everyone and I'm happy to be of assistance!
